My review August 8, 2010 Michael Wilson (Virginia Beach, Virginia) This item is ok. mine arrived slightly broken so that's why it got such a low score. Also because of the terrible service i received from halaleveryday. They were rude. I read other reviews from people and representatives of halaleveryday left rude comments. I wont be buying from them again. You may want to take their lack of customer care and their poor handling of their items before you purchase something from them. but item was ok, and still burned the insence. had it been in the condition described by the seller, it may have gotten a better review.
Practical August 7, 2010 username_5 (Midwest USA) Having used a number of "open" style incense burners for several years I am amazed it took me so long to find a closed style burner.
I am greatly enjoying this "coffin" style burner. It is very practical as it completely encloses the incense preventing any ashes from getting onto anything. I agree with one commenter that it is sort of fun to observe how the smoke moves from one set of holes in the lid to another as the stick burns down.
I give this model 4 stars instead of 5 for the following reasons:
1. Contrary to what one reviewer indicated, the unit I received did not accept Japanese style incense sticks (such as the popular Nippon Kodo) as is. In fact the holes to hold incense sticks were not fully drilled. It was apparent that the holes were drilled from the outside inward and the bit didn't go through far enough. It went all the way through, but there was extra wood blocking part of the opening on the inside. Even after removing that with a knife the diameter of the hole was to small. If you have a drill this is a very easy problem to resolve, otherwise it may be the luck of the draw whether this unit will hold Japanese style incense sticks.
2. The hidden compartment is not a slide out drawer, but a swing open door. This isn't a big deal, but be careful to empty the burner of ashes before tilting/shaking the unit to get additional sticks out.
Overall though I am pleased with this item. It looks very nice and nicely resolves the problem of ashes getting all over that is germane to other styles of burners/holders. I would recommend this item.
An additional note is that I purchased this item from Tom's Incense which has a storefront on Amazon. I had 3 orders with Amazon and selected free shipping on all. The items from Tom's arrived first. Tom's offers free shipping on all orders making his storefront a pretty good deal. Free shipping is not equal to slow shipping with Tom's from my experience.
What I wanted! July 20, 2010 Marc A. Mabrito This is really cool! Mine came delivered just fine, it took awhile though! And I heard that it came with two sample sticks of some type of incense that they use in the Buddhist temples and I didn't get that. Other than that, I am very happy with this product!
Outstanding...and disappointment-free June 4, 2010 orson (LFP WA) Short of arriving with documented evidence that it had been hand-crafted by Buddhist monks tucked within the shade of a Tibetan mountain side, I don't know how I could be more pleased with this little burner.
It's not fine art, but this cute little coffin does a very fine job indeed of cleanly and completely burning stick incense (I haven't yet tried cone style incense), and it looks swell - and surprisingly authentic - to boot. The little hidden storage drawer is icing on an already tasty cake.
Again, don't expect this to fall into line as your latest family heirloom. But for right around the price of dozen donuts (when I bought it, at least), who could ask for anything more? Highly recommended.
Great Gift Idea June 2, 2010 Presley Right (Las Vegas, NV USA) We received our wooden coffin incense burner recently and its very well put together. Its great for cone and stick incense. Love the design and also the added storage compartment. Would make a nice gift for those who enjoy incense. Great price and I plan on purchasing more soon just for gifts to have on hand. For the most part people seem to enjoy things like incense, candles, or warmers. I really think this is great because it has such a nice design and its so well put together.
